This design was a bit of an experiment. Whether or not it was a success or a failure is something you can judge for yourself!
I have a friend who is a very talented artist. She creates a lot of mandala prints to sell at art and craft markets. So I started wondering if we could perhaps team up, and I would try to create crochet versions of her mandalas. But before I proposed it to her, I wanted to see if I could even replicate a basic mandala. So I searched for one online, and I found one that looked kind of easy to replicate.
As a side note: the Coloringcrew.com website is a wonderful place to get inspiration for mandalas and colour schemes! I would recommend checking it out.
As soon as I saw it, I knew immediately which stitches I could use. I had some yarn on hand that matched the colours pretty well so I thought I would go for it and see how I got on.
This is the end result:
I used some overlay crochet to add in the black rings, popcorn stitches for the planets and a flower along with some picot petals to form the centre of the galaxy.
The plan for this experiment was to add the pattern to the blog if it was any good. So there are some decisions to be made!
Pattern or no pattern?
Black rings or no black rings?
